what creates value in a business

A successful online business that consistently brings in revenue is revered by the rest of us as valuable. Why? Simple: Because it takes serious skills to be able to build an online business and run it well.

Us humans naturally don't value things that don't require a whole lot of skill. That's just how it is. It isn't that the person doing that job doesn't deserve respect.

No, I'm making a distinction between the living, breathing human being who should be respected as such, and the role they fill.

The role isn't valuable because it doesn't require specialized skill. You could remove the person filling that role and replace them with someone else, and the difference in quality and efficiency would be minimal.

Instead, humans value things that are rare, including skill and effort. We reward the skills, products, and fixes we want by buying them. So if you don't want to be in a low-skilled job or in a struggling business, then the remedy is simple: Gain marketable skills.

It's like time. The older I get, the more I value my time. Why? Because every day that passes, I have less and less of it. So many responsibilities and demands for my time. When I was young, I had all the time in the world. Now I don't.

We value what is scarce. So gain skills and create pain-solving products that are valuable to others.
