Democrat Michelle Wu, daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, defeated fellow Democrat Annissa Essaibi George, in the Nov. 2 Boston mayoral runoff election. She is the first woman and person of color to be elected to this office.
"One of my sons asked me the other night if boys can be elected mayor in Boston," Wu said in her victory speech to laughs and cheers. "They have been, and they will again some day, but not tonight."
