Facebook changes company name to Meta, for “metaverse”, where the real is not

'Metaverse' refers to the merging of physical, augmented, and virtual reality in a shared online space. Facebook thinks it's the future of the internet, where people that do not like you click like, people that do not know you are your “friends” and people that you will never meet and will never do anything together are your “community”.
