My suburb Ryd, in Linköping, Sweden, is flooded with ever more fat hares

There was another hare couple just next to this pair, and the mild autumn (+14 C) with plenty of nutritious grass everywhere and no predators makes this an heaven for hares (at least if you imagine heaven being a place where you can be fat and lazy). They don't eat the bark on any trees as far as I know, but they might do that in the forest where there are so many trees that I never notice the few with damages.

Birds might eat the hares though. That is the only reason I can think of why there aren't even more of them as there is no shortage of food and no damages on trees during the winter that I've seen. I have seen killed hares, but it's unclear what killed them. Might have been a dog, car, sadist kid, cat or just old age, and then eaten by magpies and seagulls.

Please comment if you're a hare expert! 😊
