How to deactivate a Cat

Kittens have a scruff on the back of their necks that mothers carry them in by softly grasping it with their jaws. Kittens normally freeze up so their mothers can easily carry them; this is a psychological thing that dogs do as well. However, you should not hold an adult cat by the scruff; they like to be petted on the scruff, but you should not hold them by the scruff because their body weight is too high and it makes them uncomfortable; also, if the cat isn't friendly to you, don't grab them by the scruff because dogs and cats sometimes grab each other by the scruff to dominate each other.
