“I'm speaking to you live—if you can hear me—from the interior of our submarine. I hope you can hear me, Larry. Everyone”

“As I'm sure you all know by now, we've suffered a terrible accident. I asked Jeff to connect us. And although I don't know if this is working, just the chance that you're listening makes all the difference to me right now.”

[Crying] “I have lost Jenny. Hal Newman passed away earlier. And then Velma, Carrie—and now Norm just a few moments ago. And so, it appears at this point that I am the only one left alive. I thank you all for your prayers. You need to know we've had some amazing moments here.
But realistically, there's no real human hope of being rescued at this point. And so now I choose to spend my last minutes with you. Speaking to you—to my boys.”

[Continuing] “This church —you’re the best people on this earth. It has been such an honor to be your pastor. You were the ones who stood beside me when I went through the divorce. You came to our A wedding, and we shared a victory. You are the ones who stayed. I've never forgotten that. I so wish I could have prepared for this time in advance. You all have that blessing. You have time to consider your final moment…”

[Continuing from the submarines—his voice is now very weak…] “So, what will your final moment be? Cursing someone on the freeway? Yelling at your spouse or your children? Will you be alone in a big house all paid for but empty of love? Or will your final moment be one that inspires your family and your friends? A final moment that affirms their faith. It's up to you. I choose you for my final moment. And I plead with you to fill every moment you're given with that same amount of awe and reverence? That's something I just learned. — Your final moment defines you. It's the final proof of whether you've built your life on solid ground—or not. You choose—YOU choose. [Gasping for air…] Son….”

[There is a pause in Pastor Alan’s address to the congregation — the microphone goes silent— the congregation begins to sing hymns. Suddenly, Pastor Alan can be heard over the Loudspeaker again….]

“CHURCH, Church—Church! This is—this is Pastor Allen. Everybody! You must—you must listen to me. REALLY! Pay attention to me right now! Alright? I don't know how much time or air I have left. I have to tell you. Please, listen. Something happened to me just now. I still can't believe it. It's literally a matter of life and death. No, No! more important than that it's a matter of— it’s a matter of— Let me, let me start this way… I…I… DIED!”

“TOTAL darkness—a peace as deep as eternity……A soft warm breeze on my face—I have a sense something amazing is about to happen. And I'm starting to float—something pulling me upward. Down below me lies my body—the bodies of the others. Now the sub, the water, the coast, and green hills of Barbados….

“Ahh! It’s—A PRESENCE…. A Holy, beautiful presence…and intense—invincible LOVE…. Why did I ever fear death? Whhy did I... I…wait… something… Something is wrong. Something is horribly, terribly wrong. The light it's drifting farther away. Whaaa—No,
“I'm—falling! I'm FALLING! —It's cold. So…cold…, The great light above me…it's fading…

“Entering a dark, long hall of some kind—Closing in closing in—on—me. Then, invisible fingers curling around my being—choking—suffocating …. not my throat—but my SPIRIT! [Choking, struggling, falling, screaming…hitting the ground with a thud and a groan.]
[Struggling to stand up, describes the environment around him…] Desolate gray tundra—in every direction…I see a creature—a transparent being with tattered skin. And instead of eyes, deep pools of black. It shuffles toward me—passes through me and somehow, it's clear—all too soon…I will become like… him…. not human—wind brings a sharp smell—huh…sulfur…and the scent of rot.
“It also brings something else—the sound of people….mil, l millions of people dying over and over again.
[Screaming and yelling all around] "God! Why am I HERE? Maybe I'm here to find somebody….
“HELLO—hello—it's me it's me. Alan Rockaway— does anybody—do I—all I wanted…. [Screams, pleading] GOD—why? GOD, WHY? Why-ey-ey…...?”
[Loud ringing noise] “Huge dark shapes approaching me— the nearest ones…. hideous beast… plunges its arm into a pit of fire. [Screams of despair can be heard all around] It’s— no longer a man… It’s become a plaything of a demon. [Closing his eyes, unable to watch the horror].
[Crying out] “GOD, Where are YOU?? I've never felt like this before you feel so far awaaaay... Please, God. I'M SO SORRY for, eh, eh…. — Whaa…the presence… behind me… I have to run… run out of…. but I can't move! GOD, PLEASE, I can’t—move. GOD, PLEASE……

“Whaa, whaa...? The beast…it’s, it’s gone.
The Tall Man…. robed in alabaster… So out of place in here….”

[Following his guide down the corridor] “Whoah! This—this is beautiful. It's more incredible than I — I had imagined. And yet somehow, it’s—it's terrifying.”

“You are about to enter the GREAT HALL OF THE WHITE THRONE OF JUDGMENT. The SON who sits on the throne has beheld your heart. He knows your innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing is hidden.

Pastor Alan
[Slight whisper and exhale] Alright.

“You will approach when your name is called. At the gold rail, you will kneel where you will “have a chance to address the SON of THE MOST HIGH, the KING of THE UNIVERSE.

“Wait—You're saying—then, that this will decide—whether Heaven or….”

“As it is written, this is the most decisive, and solitary moment you will ever face. Did you not read in the eternal scriptures of the King’s Judgment Seat? “Knowing therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men”. May your name be found….”

“Oohh…, it’s so…vast…. the ceiling must be 1000—no—5000 feet high! It's all so, it’s all so MAGNIFICENT. It's so permeated— GOD'S love. And yet, somehow, I feel —A Holy—a holy—sacred—fear.”

[Flash backs in his mind about things that captured his attention in the past] ‘How are we ever going to pay this off?’, ‘Jeff, when are you going to shave that thing off your face’, ‘The board says they're going to evaluate my performance over the last two years.’ Terri, do you see a gray hair? There? ‘Greg. I'm gonna have to declare your room a national disaster area.’—' I think these pants must have shrunk in the wash’— Oohh, distractions, foolishness. This is the moment I should have cared about. This is the moment that should have consumed me all my life. This is the moment I should have prepared for— my encounter with HIM"

[Observing the proceedings, confident in the outcome…] “You'll be alright. my friend. You’re one of the godliest men in my church. If you aren't accepted, then all my work has been for nothing.”

“I have—I served you, Lord. My whole life has been about serving Your name. It's, it's been an honor, my Lord.

“Gabriel is the name Hal Newman found in the Book of Life?”

“NO! —It is not, my LORD.”

[In disbelief] “What?!”

“HAL NEWMAN, you are guilty of denying me. You will be taken to the Lake of Fire where you will spend eternity away from my presence in the company of Satan and his demons and all those who have denied Me.

[Pleading with the Lord] No, no, but Lord, How have I denied you? I accepted you as a boy I've been a Christian my whole life. How can this be?

[The voice of the Lord resounds like thunder] “GABRIEL, reveal the works of his life.”

“Yes, my Lord.”

[Hal’s life begins to play before him...] “Give this envelope to my good buddy down at the Planning Commission. He’ll—turn his head the other way—just long enough for us to get the go-ahead to break ground on the project. It’s that easy”.

“Wait, I can get the siding for that low? Sure. I understand, only good for five or six years? Hey, I'll be retired by then.”

[Another account] “Stanley, relax my friend. I've got several places we can hide the money, right? Didn't You know, I'm a CPA. Yeah, Creative Person with Accounting”. [Laughing heartily]

The LORD 20:10
“Hal, I would have gladly forgiven you of these deeds. I died to give you that chance. If you had come to me, with a broken and contrite heart, I would have erased these deeds from all memory. But you—never—knew me. And these deeds are merely evidence of what was in your heart all along.”

“I gave you many chances to repent in life. But out of your pride, you refused. You prayed a prayer decades ago. But it meant little. You never followed me. You never KNEW me.

“Even now your friend curses at God. Curses at you. That has been your friend's true nature all along. It is now with…. [strange noise as his voice fades]

[Startled at the noise] “What was that?”

“Time moving. We are in the fullness of time and are moving about its corridors. This is the same sensation the Apostle John experienced when moving through the events in the Book of Revelation. When you are no longer confined to a time, you see things you wouldn't have seen otherwise.”

[Now addressing the congregation at Summit Chapel via phone link]” After what happened to Hal, l was relieved to hear Carrie’s name called.

[As the congregation sat in shock at what they had just heard from Pastor Alan, a shouting match broke out in the sound room between technician Tom Scully and Pastor Larry Collins] “Tom! What do you mean you're cutting the transmission?”

“I mean, Pastor Alan is getting low on oxygen. He's obviously delusional and I'm not going to be responsible….”

Pastor Larry Collins
“This is no delusion! This happens to be the most important message ever delivered at this church!”

“Did you hear what he was saying? Hal Newman—going to hell?

Pastor Larry Collins
“Knowing what I know…. Never mind that. If you dare to cut on your feed, as much as I hate to lose you right now, I will have you thrown out of this building. You got it?”

[The pastor continues] “I watched Carrie step forward. And I thought back to images of her holding a crying baby at church or taking a little toddler by the hand. Carrie was an amazing woman.”

[Carrie’s life begins to play before her...] “Did you hear about pastor Alan? He took up with that trashy worship singer. —Everybody knows they spent the night together in some love nest in Cairo. — You can't tell anyone. It could ruin a marriage. — I'm not here to gossip. But if you're thinking of making that woman head a preschool, there are some things you should know. — I'm just sharing these things out of concern. After all, she is part of the church ministry. So, she really needs our prayers.”

“CARRIE! My Word is clear about the seven things I hate. And the seventh—which is an ABOMINATION—is sowing discord among brethren. Again, I speak in My Word that I cannot tolerate those who slandered their neighbors.”

“YOU DID! But Carrie, your heart was far from me. You stated you knew Jesus. But you never came to me with a humble and contrite heart for salvation…”

“Therefore, my life was never imparted to you.”

“YOU TRUSTED IN YOUR WORKS—a substitute for a genuine relationship with me My Word is clear on that, Carrie. You are not justified by works. If you had sincerely given your life to me, your life would have shown a changed nature. You would have loved what I loved, hated what I hated. That is the evidence. It isn't the works, Carrie. It's the heart—you do not know Me, Carrie. And I do not know you. My Word is clear. You have made your choice. Therefore, you must depart from me and go to your internal punishment.”

[Standing before LORD]

“You did all these things in my name, Alan. And yet I knew you're not. My life was not within you. I could have would have forgiven all these things, but you never had a repentant heart. Instead, you preached what would make you popular and successful—empty words that allowed people to live comfortably— but without fruit. You neglected to teach your people what it truly means to follow Me—to LOVE Me with all their HEART, SOUL, AND MIGHT. You even paraded your adultery and the destruction of your family before the church, justifying it in MY NAME. This was an ABOMINATION! Had my life been within you, you would not have gotten so boldly into adultery against My Word. When I was on earth, My Words were clear. Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.

Alan! My Word also says there is evidence for those who truly know Me. If they know Me, they will keep My Commandments. If they break My Commandments, they will confess their sins and repent. You never confessed or repented from your sin. Rather you justified it.”

“Well, you talk about how Summit Chapel is a safe place to check out the faith, to kick the tires. Right?

“But how does someone receive Jesus at our church?”

“Terri, we've talked about this 100 times. The whole approach is to reach out to the seekers. We don't want to pound them over the head with doctrine. It's a gentle leading…”

“Terri, look—I'm not going to debate you on this. The problem is you're still tied to the past—the old way of doing things—to dogma.”
