This is the moment a brave man risked his life to save a drowning cow that was swept away by a gushing river in the Philippines.

Quin Albert Dalman said they were preparing food when they heard a loud noise and found the cow struggling to stay afloat in the swollen river in Cagayan de Oro province on October 4.

His brother Aldexter Dalman, 39, ran and jumped into the water to rescue the helpless animal.

Albert said: "The owner of the calf is old. He was just letting the cow drink in the river when a sudden downpour fell and it was swept away. Fortunately, we were there and my brother was quick to come to its rescue."

The Philippines and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand are in the middle of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Soaring temperatures reaching 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash floods.
