UAE Police Recruits Robocop With AI To Investigate Crimes Against Kids

City police in the United Arab Emirates have recruited a ‘Robocop’ with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities to investigate crimes against children.

Detective ‘Robotok’ joins the police force in the city of Umm Al Quwain in the emirate of the same name in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after a three-year pilot period.

Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmad Al Mualla, chief of Umm Al Quwain Police, said Robotok is the department’s first ever robotic employee.

The innocent-looking robot started work on 3rd October and was given an official job card to use during its upcoming investigations into crimes against children.

The police chief also said that Robotok’s introduction coincides with the launch of Expo 2020, a world fair hosted by Dubai between 1st October 2021 and 31st March 2022.

He announced that the initiative was launched by the Umm Al Quwain Police General Command in cooperation with the Umm Al Quwain Smart Department.

The police chief added that Robotok’s introduction is in line with the department’s vision to use AI in more operations in the future.

The Umm Al Quwain Police General Command accompanied a video of Robotok on social media with the message: “Coinciding with the launch of Expo 2020 Dubai, His Excellency Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Commander-in-Chief of Umm Al Quwain Police, inaugurated the first job card for a robotic employee involved in investigating crimes against children.

“The project was launched by the Umm Al Quwain Police General Command in partnership with the Umm Al Quwain Smart Department. Detective Robotok officially started work on 3/10/2021 after a three-year period in which he achieved impressive results in the investigation of crimes against children.

“His Excellency the Commander in Chief indicated that this step comes within the aspirations of the Umm Al Quwain Police General Command for the future, and its contribution to achieving the wise leadership’s vision and affirming the role of artificial intelligence in the next stage.”
