1. Avoid coffee after 2 pm

Caffeine is a stimulant that can keep you from feeling tired at night, but sleep experts recommend avoiding caffeine after 2 pm.
This means no coffee or tea after lunch! If you really need a pick-me-up, go for decaf instead of the real thing.

2. Turn off electronics at least an hour before bedtime

Not only do electronic devices keep you awake with the bright light, but they also keep you from getting a good night's sleep.
If you have to use electronics before sleep, make sure to turn on the blue light feature so that it won't impact your sleep quality as much.

3. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on weekends or holidays

Sleeping in on weekends or holidays will not give you a sleep debt that you can repay on Monday morning.

It may seem like a good idea to sleep in, but it actually makes it harder for you to sleep when you need sleep the most!

Going to sleep and waking up at the same time every day helps your mind get into sleep mode faster and sleep better.

4. Get enough exercise during the day- it can help you sleep better at night

Whether it's going for a 20-minute run in the morning or doing some pushups in the evening, exercise during the day will help you sleep better at night.

It's recommended to not exercise 3 hours before sleep because it can get your heart pumping and energized - exactly what we don't want when trying to sleep!

5. Keep your bedroom cool to lower body temperature and promote sleepiness

Your sleep quality is directly related to the temperature of your bedroom.

Most sleep experts recommend keeping your room somewhere between 60 and 67 degrees Fahrenheit so that it's cool enough for sleep but not too cold that you shiver yourself awake!

6. Make your bedroom as dark as possible by using curtains, blackout shades, or an eye mask if necessary

It's sleep time. Blackout shades or curtains will help you sleep better by blocking out that pesky streetlight outside your window or the glare from an alarm clock in the morning.

Even if it's dark outside, light can get in through cracks around doors and windows which mess with our sleep schedule.

7. Create a routine that prepares you for bed (for example: read a book in dim light)

Creating a sleep routine will help your mind get ready for sleep.

Layout your sleep clothes, turn off technology and dim the lights so that sleepiness can kick in faster.

A great bedtime ritual is to read a book since it's relaxing and there's no light coming from a screen!

This helps cue your body that sleep time is coming.

Sleep is really important for your health. It can help you sleep better and feel great.
