Spain: Anti-fascists and far-right groups take to Barcelona streets on Columbus Day - 12.10.2021

Dutzende von Demonstranten aus nationalistischen und rechtsextremen Gruppen zogen am Dienstag durch die Straßen Barcelonas, während in einem anderen Teil der Stadt antifaschistische Gruppen gegen die Feier des Kolumbus-Tags protestierten.

Das Filmmaterial zeigt, wie die rechtsextremen Demonstranten mit spanischen Flaggen marschieren, den römischen Gruß zeigen und eine katalanische Flagge verbrennen.

Währenddessen demonstrierte die antifaschistische Gruppe gegen die Feier des Kolumbus-Tages und verbrannte Flaggen Spaniens und der Europäischen Union.

Beide Demonstrationen wurden von der Polizei schwer bewacht, und die beiden Gruppen trafen nicht aufeinander. Der Kolumbus-Tag ist ein nationales Fest in Spanien und erinnert an die Ankunft von Christoph Kolumbus in Amerika im Jahr 1492.

Dozens of demonstrators from nationalist and far-right groups marched through the streets of Barcelona on Tuesday, while in another part of the city anti-fascist groups protested against the celebration of Columbus Day.

Footage shows the far-right demonstrators marching with Spanish flags while performing the Roman salute and burning a Catalan flag.

Meanwhile, the anti-fascist group marched in repudiation of the celebration of Columbus Day and burned flags of Spain and the European Union.

Both demonstrations were heavily guarded by the police and the two groups did not meet. Columbus Day is a national festival in Spain and commemorates the arrival of Christopher Columbus in Americas in 1492.

Decenas de manifestantes de grupos nacionalistas y de extrema derecha marcharon el martes por las calles de Barcelona, mientras que en otra parte de la ciudad grupos antifascistas protestaron contra la celebración del Día de la Raza.

Las imágenes muestran a los manifestantes de extrema derecha marchando con banderas españolas mientras realizan el saludo romano y queman una bandera catalana.

Por su parte, el grupo antifascista marchó en repudio de la celebración del Día de la Raza y quemó banderas de España y de la Unión Europea.

Ambas manifestaciones estuvieron fuertemente vigiladas por la policía y los dos grupos no se encontraron. El Día de la Raza es una fiesta nacional en España y conmemora la llegada de Cristóbal Colón a América en 1492.
