This is the moment a suspected car thief crashes into a house at speed after attempting to evade Ohio police officers.

The incident took place in in the city of Medina, which is located in Medina County, in the Midwestern US state of Ohio, when police officers from the Medina Police Department (MPD) responded to reports that two men were attempting to break into a vehicle and that one of them had fired a shot at a person who had confronted them.

The footage, which was shot from a police vehicle dashcam, shows at least two cop cars chasing after the suspects in the allegedly stolen vehicle after they stopped to take a complainant's testimony and saw the vehicle drive right past them.

The suspect drives into what appears to be a suburban neighbourhood and can be seen attempting to exit the vehicle as it is going round a bend but the vehicle changes course and crashes into a house a split second after the suspect jumped out, with the passenger, the second suspect, apparently still inside.

A police officer can then be heard shouting at the suspect to put his hands up.

The footage was shared online by the MPD, who said: "On October 6, 2021, at approximately 11:30 PM, Medina Police responded to the area of Winston Circle regarding two males attempting to break into a vehicle. The complainant advised he observed a male inside his vehicle and confronted him. The male fled the area; however, he pointed a handgun at the complainant and fired one round while running. The complainant was not hit. Officers established a perimeter to search the area with the assistance of a K9 team and a drone.

"While officers were attempting to locate the suspects, Medina Police received a call reporting a stolen vehicle from a driveway on Chadwick Lane, one street over from Winston Circle. While the officer was taking the report for the stolen vehicle, the complainant and the officer observed the vehicle driving south on Abbeyville Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but it fled west on West Liberty Street.

"The vehicle turned onto Eden Lane, where the driver bailed out of the moving vehicle. The vehicle continued and struck a residence causing substantial damage but no injuries. The driver and passenger of the stolen vehicle were taken into custody quickly. A handgun was located and seized for evidence.
The suspects, both juvenile males from Cuyahoga County, were transported to the Medina County Detention Center pending charges.

"The Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Strongsville Police K9, Medina Township Police, and Montville Township Police assisted.

"Please remember to lock your car doors and remove the keys or key fobs!"
