Making people think or do something you want them to is not that difficult with today's technology. The electro-magnetic frequency weapons that have been developed by the military can be modulated to create theta wave and beta wave asymmetrical activity in the brain, thus rendering an individual or a group acutely susceptible to outside instruction. The A.I. then simply implants the desired 'event' sequence into the individuals brain similar to how a hypnotherapist implants an instruction into the mind of a patient.
