Zercher Squats & Cold Adaptation
It was a chilly morning for my workout in the barn, so I decided to talk a little about cold adaptation between sets of Zercher squats. While I would normally take shorter rests between sets for this amount of weight, I was working on mobility and also fiddling with the camera, so it took longer than usual. And, of course squats require a little more recovery than single-joint isolation movements.
By the time I finished the rest of my session - bench press and rows - my toes were getting somewhat cold, but the rest of my body still felt quite comfortable. Until a few years ago when I started learning about - and training my body for - non shivering thermogenesis, I never would have thought this was possible. The human body truly is amazing in its ability to adapt to conditions, so long as one does not stifle that by continually seeking out comfort.
