Russia And Mongolia Team Up For Joint Military Exercises

Artillery units from both Russia and Mongolia have been on reconnaissance and firing circuit exercises together for the first time as part of the Selenga-2021.

The international exercise Selenga-2021 started on September 22 and took place at the Doityn Am training ground in Mongolia as part of a joint Russian-Mongolian training, where artillery units of the armed forces of Russia and Mongolia for the first time used a reconnaissance and firing joint operation when delivering a massive fire strike on a mock enemy.

In order to carry out the exercise, an artillery group consisting of several divisions was created under the leadership of the chief of artillery of the armed forces of Mongolia, designed to act in the interests of developing tactical groups of the two countries.

The results of the final firing exercise were monitored using unmanned aerial vehicles, which transmitted information in real-time to adjust the fire to the command post.

In addition, during the exercise, tank and motorized rifle units of the two countries jointly worked out the tasks of conducting reconnaissance, search, and offensive operations.

Air defense units with the help of anti-aircraft self-propelled guns Shilka and anti-aircraft guns ZU-23-2 destroyed the aircraft of the mock enemy, after which they opened fire on ground targets simulating lightly armored vehicles of the mock enemy.

The aviation forces also performed a number of tasks in support of the units of the ground troops including conducting aerial reconnaissance, providing fire support, mining the area from the air, and landing-transport tasks.

The exercise involved servicemen of the motorized rifle unit of the combined arms army of the Eastern Military District stationed in the Republic of Buryatia and units of the armed forces of Mongolia with a total strength of about 1,500 personnel and more than 200 units of military equipment.

The Selenga-2021 exercise is aimed at combating international terrorism and is timed to the 100th anniversary of the creation of the armed forces of Mongolia and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mongolia.
