Win Friday 10-8-21

It was late summer 1976.

I had worked a good part of the summer as a carpenter’s helper pounding nails and cleaning up after others.

For really the first time in my life I had experienced the meaning of hard work for pay.

We had talked Mark into buying a car which we could all fit into with our camping stuff and hit the road just two weeks prior to the year school starting up.

One 15, (3) 17 and one 18 year old off for a Rocky Mountain High.

Prior to leaving, at all of our breaks for weeks we had talked about it, planed and dreamed of this adventure and yes Coors…

While the nation celebrated its bi-centennial, Colorado celebrated its centennial, 100 years of statehood. Got me a belt buckle, the only surviving souvenir from the trip.

We all had to quit our jobs on the Friday before we left and experienced what is commonly known as Freedom!

I’m here so I obviously survived, but what is more important we learned that freedom comes at a cost, and it’s expensive.

It taught us the things that need to be appreciated and not taken for granted.
It taught us that there is always conditions that require us take a stance in order not to lose it.
It taught us that together we can stand our ground for striving for what my parents call the American Dream. #dbrn
