78. Fred Wilson - They Gave You the Weekend

Fred Wilson is author of "A New Kind of Union - Unifor and the Birth of the Modern Canadian Union" published in 2019 by James Lorimer and Co.

Fred retired from full time work with Unifor in 2017. He was a facilitator for the New Union Project that created Unifor and was Director of Strategic Planning for the first three years of the new union.

Fred continues to be a volunteer in union activities and is one of the Unifor representatives in the North America Solidarity Project.

Prior to the formation of Unifor, Fred was assistant to the president of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union. Fred worked with the union's pattern bargaining committees in energy and forestry, coordinated policy and campaigns and was a lead author of the union's forestry and energy policies.

A lifetime social activist, Fred was an organizer and campaign manager in Vancouver politics for 20 years, and he was a volunteer Board member of the Council of Canadians for 15 years.
