Born on 11 March 1910 in Aljustrel, a hamlet of Fatima in Portugal, Giacinta Marto was the eleventh and last daughter of Emanuele Pietro Marto and Olimpia de Jesus. Together with his brother Francesco and his cousin Lucia, he was one of the visionaries of the Marian apparitions of Fatima, between May and October 1917. With a lively nature, he learned to accept suffering willingly, even making small sacrifices for the love of God. and of the Madonna. Falling ill during a violent epidemic of “Spanish” flu in 1918, she died on February 20, 1920 in the «Dona Estefânia» hospital in Lisbon, at the age of nine and eleven months. Her brother Francesco had preceded her on April 4, 1919. Both were beatified by Saint John Paul II on May 13, 2000 and canonized by Pope Francis exactly seventeen years later.
