Tropical cyclone Shaheen in Oman
Natural disaster October 3, 2021

On Sunday, October 3, tropical cyclone Shaheen hit the northern coast of Oman.
When the cyclone's eye crossed the coast, the wind speed was about 150 kilometers per hour, and the waves rose up to 10 meters.
Oman's capital Muscat has been hit particularly hard by high winds and floods.
Streets turned into rivers, hundreds of cars were trapped in water.
The local airport was suspended.
More than 5,000 people were relocated to about 80 shelters set up in the affected provinces.
Rescue services are working hard to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
The country's armed forces are also taking part in the rescue operation.
They continue to rescue people trapped in floods, as well as rebuilding damaged roads to bring aid to areas in need.
Oman was last hit by such a strong cyclone in 2007, when cyclone Gonu hit.
It was recorded as the strongest cyclone ever to pass through the Arabian Sea.
The damage then amounted to billions of dollars.
