Photographing Rays of Light in Fog Using Off Camera Flash

Off-camera flash to capture rays of light in fog, haze, or smoke is surprisingly easy. In this video, I explain how I photographed light beams on a dark, foggy night by photographed light through the branches of a tree using a single Profoto B1X monolight. Even so, any off-camera flash can be used to get the same type of results, even a speedlight.

Whether you're using a high-powered strobe or a speed light, I'd highly suggest using a tripod to stabilize your camera for this type of photography. While it's not necessary, it will undoubtedly come in handy and give you better results.
