Lester Erwin Whitaker, age 95, died peacefully at home in Foley, Alabama on Sunday, September 26, 2021.

Lester was born on July 24, 1926 in Louisburg, Kansas to Riley Dean and Frieda Whitaker. He, along with his four siblings, learned the value of hard work growing up on the family dairy farm. Lester and his two older brothers served their country during World War II, Lester serving in the Marine Corps.

Lester was a builder throughout his life; building schools and churches and then residential homes. You could find him up on a roof when he was in his 70’s. In his spare time he and his wife Betty would go fishing. They loved to take trips to fish.

He married Betty Osborn Feb. 13, 1950. They had seven children; Shirley, Janet, Patricia, Larry, Sue, Mike, and Kevin. Betty passed away shortly after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Lester was also preceded in death by two sons, Kevin Daniel and Michael Eugene, and two daughters, Gayla Sue and Patricia Lynn, as well as his parents and all his siblings except one younger sister. Lester is survived by daughters Shirley and Janet (David), son Larry (Janie), his youngest sister Dorothy, ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

The family gives special thanks to Southern Care Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Lester the last two years of his life.
