When it comes to COVID-19, should you focus on fixing your diet or getting more nutrients as a preventive action?
By fixing the diet, I'm talking about:
1. Doing a low carb diet (keto diet)
2. Doing intermittent fasting
The nutrients:
1. Zinc
2. Vitamin D
3. Vitamin C
COVID-19 risk factors:
• High blood pressure
• Obesity
• Diabetes
• Cardiovascular disease
The COVID-19 risk factors above are metabolic problems. Metabolic problems have something in common: insulin resistance. Metabolic problems weaken the immune system. So, a weak immune system is a symptom of metabolic problems, and metabolic problems can be a symptom of insulin resistance.
If you have these conditions, and you're doing a high-carb diet instead of the keto diet, taking the nutrients may help. But, really, these nutrients may not make a dent in these conditions if the person's insulin is still too high.
When studies are done using these nutrients with COVID-19, and they don't fix the person's diet, I believe the results might not be as good.
The healthy keto diet with intermittent fasting may potentially help with metabolic conditions. This could automatically make your immune system a lot better.
If I had to choose between fixing my diet or taking nutrients, I would choose to fix my diet. But, then I would also add in the nutrients as well. I don't think taking the nutrients will work like they should without fixing the diet first.
