This desire by ardent Protestants to connect with a sanctioned liturgical calendar speaks of the deep hunger the believer has for both God and a faithful community. This is evidence of both cult & culture.

Cult = identity

Cult ties directly to worship.

Judaism’s culture is a result of the Lord directing the liturgical practice (cult) found in the Torah esp Exodus & Leviticus. The giving of the Law at Mt Sinai sets into motion the Jewish identity. The exile showed the serious problem of failing to keep the liturgical precepts and thus a fence of protection was erected to guard against idolatry and other pagan practices.

Keeping the Law has this same protective feature of a fence in Judaism. The 613 precepts serve as a protection to the Ten Commandments. It is a truism, those things that are valued receive higher protection. Following Yahweh has the highest priority and thus one finds greater safeguards.

People intuitively understand and have a longing connection to people gone before so that we are not forgotten by those to come.
