On the island of Palma, part of the Canary Islands archipelago, the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano continues. The lava flow has reached residential buildings and has already destroyed more than 100 buildings.
According to the Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands, lava moves at a speed of 700 meters per hour. Its temperature is over 1000 degrees Celsius. Scientists expect that lava will soon reach the Atlantic Ocean.
About 5.5 thousand people were evacuated from dangerous areas. The Spanish military and civil guard are trying to prevent fires from erupting.
