Others prove that Maine Coons came from crossing domestic tabby-colored cats with North American lynx. Tassels on the ears of Maine Coons serve as proof of this theory. The truth is, geneticists break down both of these theories with ease - Maine Coons are a natural population of American feline metropolis. Originally, these cats were used as rat-catchers on farms, even sometimes taken for this purpose and on ships in those days, often plagued by rodent infestations.
