On the island of Palma, part of the Canary Islands archipelago, the eruption of the volcano Cumbre Vieja continues. The lava flow has hit residential buildings and has already destroyed more than 100 buildings.
According to the Institute of Volcanology of the Canary Islands, lava moves at a speed of 700 meters per hour. Its temperature is over 1000 degrees Celsius. Scientists hope the lava will soon reach the Atlantic Ocean.
About 5,500 people were evacuated from dangerous areas. The Spanish Civil and Military Guard is trying to prevent the outbreak of fires.
