Bunny vs. Rabbit: Although rabbit is the official noun, the word bunny is usually used due to its endearing connotation. A baby rabbit is often referred to as a "bunny," while the proper phrase is "baby rabbit." A bunny's image is one of sweetness, cuddliness, and fluffiness. It is the origin of the Easter Bunny's name. Young children also use bunny because it fits better in their lexicon of abbreviated animal names. Finally, a little child can be referred to as Bunny as a term of endearment. In a formal, scientific environment, rabbit is the right word to use; nevertheless, bunny is completely fine in ordinary conversation.
