Nurse Peacock what entails a well-fitted mask? In order for a mask to be effective in a medical application, each mask must be specifically fitted to the wearer’s facial structure. Will the Health Department commit to providing MIOSHA trained PPC specialist for each school to ensure that every child has a properly fitted mask, which, by the way, ought to be changed every 20 minutes to reduce the child’s exposure to congestion of bacteria and virus particles in the face mask. And as these specially fitted masks will increase the expense to the students’ parents, the Health Department ought also to provide the masks.

Furthermore, it is interesting to note that you state adequate ventilation is a requirement for the avoidance of the spread of SARS-Cov-2 directly following the requisite of well-fitted masks which limit one’s adequate ventilation.

However, if this ventilation references indoor air quality and requires each school to provide adequate ventilation what would this entail? A few open windows? How will this be possible in the cold temperatures of a Northern Michigan winters?

The only effective way to mitigate transmission of this virus by air filtration would be to install Hospital grade HVAC systems such as positive or negative pressure cleanrooms. Is the Health Department prepared to provide the financial means to secure these air filtration systems in each
public school in Northern Michigan? And how could this be implemented in such a short time to be of use for this school year?

As for avoiding crowded indoor spaces, what would be the definition of a crowded indoor space? I have never observed a crowded classroom in Northern Michigan. If schools, students, and their parents are expected to follow such sloppy guidelines that provide no substantial security and no practical applicability, why should they trust that these guidelines will protect their children’s well-being?
