Close Call (with commentary)

This video was previously uploaded without commentary. It was recorded at around 4PM (the beginning of the evening rush hour), and I was around 5-10 minutes into my ride. At the beginning, you can see the sun blinding me in my mirrors, making it hard to see other motorists behind me. Realizing this, I deduced that oncoming motorists may also have a hard time seeing me with the sun in their eyes. When I got to the construction signs and sawhorses, I became aware that oncoming traffic waiting to turn left at the intersection may have an even harder time seeing me. Because of this, I maintained my speed and prepared to use the brakes just in case. Thank goodness, because the motorist committed to making a left hand turn into my path of travel.

I expected this motorist to pull out in front of me before they committed to their turn. It's important to note that this video is not meant to put other motorists down or make anyone feel bad, I'm sure the other motorist didn't see me from the the sun and did not do this intentionally. We all make mistakes and sometimes they are unavoidable. Rather, this is intended to be a tool for recognizing road hazards and making a split-second decision to avoid them. -Faerodyn
