On Aug. 31, President Joe Biden officially declared that the 20-year U.S. military presence in Afghanistan had ended. However, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said there are still 100 to 200 Americans remaining in Afghanistan. The withdrawal also left the Taliban with at least $85 billion worth of U.S military equipment and weapons. Why did Biden call the withdrawal from Afghanistan a ‘great success’?

On Aug. 30, the United Nations Security Council passed a resolution that calls for the Taliban to facilitate safe passages for people wanting to leave Afghanistan. However, this came at a cost with the U.S lowering its voice on tracing the origin of the virus against China. Will China & Taliban use American hostages in Afghanistan to blackmail the U.S in the near future?
