Does CA Election Law Forbid Campaign "Volunteers" but Allow "Employees" from being a Poll Clerk?

I've emailed the Kern County Poll Worker Training Advisor and I've contacted the volunteer coordinator for Larry Elder and haven't heard back from either.

Internet searches have turned up zilch. Any election lawyers out there that can help me out? Comment below!
