Abandoned baby fox becomes best friends with orphaned two badgers at animal sanctuary, Phoebe, the fox cub, was found in a Leeds box. Two baby badgers were also found along the roadside.
After a Whitby animal sanctuary put together the unlikely family, Phoebe, an orphaned baby fox cub, and two badgers, animal lovers were astonished to see their blossoming friendship.
Staff was baffled when they received a two-month-old fox cub to care for. However, it was unusual that they didn't have any other foxes with which to place her.
Phoebe was not happy to rely on the sanctuary for food and support. Staff came up with an innovative idea: to try to form a friendship between two orphaned badgers.
Phoebe, the fox, was found alone in Leeds and put in a cardboard box. Two small badger cubs, however, were nearby.
Although Phoebe's family wasn't found, an adult badger thought to be Betty or Bella's mother was discovered dead on a nearby road.
Staff at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, North Yorkshire, took the tiny foxes and badgers separately. They were then placed together by staff.
Although foxes and badgers are not likely to encounter each other in wild, the three cubs of two months old have found refuge in each other's company.
They are flourishing under the watchful eyes of Alexandra Farmer, chief executive.
She stated that badgers and foxes wouldn't mix in the wild. In fact, they are more likely to stay out of each others' way.
"But these three wild animals were not their mothers and they were all roughly the same size so we thought we could put them together, as long as we kept an eye on them.
"We are delighted to have seen them bond extremely well. It's been wonderful to see them eating, sleeping, and playing together.
