Pep Guardiola makes Man City goals vow amid Harry Kane transfer plans

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola addressed the lack of a clinical edge as his side lost to Tottenham

Pep Guardiola says that Manchester City are good enough to score goals regularly without any new additions to their squad as they continue to seek a deal for Harry Kane.

The Tottenham striker was absent from either squad for the opening weekend as Spurs beat an under-par City 1-0. Including the Community Shield, it was the second weekend in a row where the Premier League champions have played well but failed to score and been punished for it.

City are still seeking to sign Kane before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, yet with considerable hurdles still to be cleared to get a deal done the Blues have had to start with Ferran Torres up front, with Gabriel Jesus also an option and other players capable of playing as a false nine.

Guardiola was happy enough with the performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to declare that the goals will come from this squad even if they do not sign Kane.

"We are the same people as last season," he said. "Sergio [Aguero] is gone, unfortunately last season we could not use him much. In came Jack [Grealish]. We are the same people that won the Premier League and we make very good things and it's normal.

"Spurs are a tough rival for us, always I have the feeling that we are good here but we cannot get results because they punish you in transitions. we did everything to win and we avoided too much to make transitions but sometimes it happened. Most of the players have 90 minutes in the legs, we have a long week to prepare to face Norwich and hopefully the players can come back step by step.

"It is the same people as last season when we scored lots of goals. It has happened. What is important is we are there, the last cross. we arrived many times there and today we could not score but it is the same mystery. We are the same, we are good enough to create chances and score goals and we are going to do it.
