Worship Music, also known as "faith music", is a term used to describe contemporary religious music The early years of this sub-genre were heavily influenced by early church hymns and church music, and the influence has continued on into modern times. Messianic musical genres often draw from traditional forms of church music as well as from the classical styles of modern music. Most Messianic musicians are also strong proponents of ancient monasticism, and their complex musical styles often draw heavily from traditional messianic religious writings and traditions.

A common feature of Messianic music is its tendency towards mysticism. Many of the songs that have achieved classic status in the genre feature intricate musical structures that feature repeated motifs and polyrhythmic patterns. Their beats often feature a keyboard interplay that often repeats a single note or a simple chord pattern, leading to a highly rhythmic and syncopated piece. Examples of well-known Messianic songs include the ambient ode "Odes of Angels" by operatic flamenco guitarist Giuseppe Verdi, the gargantuan metal hymn "ESSences" by Celtic string band Celtic Fire, and the classic "DA Clavier" by German string orchestra. In addition to their use of complex musical structures and polyrhythmic patterns, Messianic worship music also frequently makes use of complex vocal chants, and Messianic Jewish cantillation is also quite common. A number of Messianic Jewish songs include a wide range of themes, including such traditional Jewish themes as the Shechita (ritual prayer) and the Baraita (prayer for the dead).
