Texas Supreme Court allows arrest of Democrats; Arizona Dem resigns after arrest on child sex crimes

The Texas Supreme Court on Tuesday voided a lower court’s order that would have stopped the arrests of the lawmakers. House Speaker Dade Phelan and Gov. Greg Abbott asked the court to overturn the order. They argued that the Texas Constitution empowers the Legislature to compel attendance of its members.

Let's look at some interesting data about covid. On July 19th, the UK lifted almost all remaining covid restrictions. The British government faced searing criticism for the decision as the Delta variant was still soaring in the country. Some projections made by experts and critics warned that Johnson’s “Freedom Day” reopening plan would push cases, hospitalizations, and deaths to explode into a catastrophic level. But the opposite happened. Daily cases in the UK dropped significantly pretty much around the days the restrictions were lifted.

In Arizona, the fate of another Democrat official is much more dire. 35-year-old State Sen. Tony Navarrete is accused of repeatedly abusing a boy whom he lived with for several years. Navarrete was arrested on seven felony charges on Aug. 6th for suspected sex crimes against children. If he’s convicted of them all, he would face a mandatory minimum sentence of 49 years; basically the rest of his life would be in prison.
