The Adventures of Sam Spade: The Dry Martini Caper

Originally aired: August 1st, 1948

Spade's brand new case begins with his client getting shot by a mysterious assailant.

Loosely based on Dashiell Hammett's character from The Maltese Falcon, the series was much more tongue-in-cheek than the original character. Scriptwriters Jason James and Bob Tallman received and Edgar Award for Best Radio Drama from the Mystery Writers of America. Dashiell Hammett's name was removed from the series in the late 1940s as he was being investigatged for involvement with the Communist Party.
