Diver captures poignant final moments with friendly seal, Kostis, before his brutal death in Greece

Diver Nikos Vardakas captured the final footage of the beloved orphaned monk seal Kostis just days before he was 'deliberately killed' with a spear gun off the coast of Alonissos in Greece. Nikos was diving with friends when the seal, who is known to seek out interaction with swimmers and snorkellers, came to join them underwater. Kostis, named after the fisherman who saved him from a storm in 2018, had been adopted by islanders as their unofficial mascot and a police investigation is underway to track down his killer.
