The mute swan is a bird from the duck family.
Swans have a very long neck, an elongated body, a medium-sized body and head with an orange-red beak, at the base of which there is a characteristic black outgrowth. Mute is named because of the sound made when irritated. In length it can reach 180 cm, the weight of females 5.5-6 kg, males 8-13 kg (some individuals can weigh up to 22.5 kg). The wingspan of a mute swan is about 240 cm.
The mute swan lives in northern Europe and Asia. Quite rare everywhere. However, with the help of humans, this species of swans has successfully taken root in North America, South Africa, Australia.
