The field sparrow is a widespread passerine bird, a close relative of the house sparrow inhabitant of cities. Unlike the latter, it is less dependent on a person. It is found on the outskirts of settlements, in abandoned villages and near grain crops, orchards and vineyards. In the wild, it is distributed in light forests, bushes and steppe. Somewhat smaller than a house sparrow, it differs from it primarily in a brown cap on the head, distinct black spots on white cheeks, a much smaller black “bib” on the throat and a collar of white feathers on the sides of the neck.
