The anatomy of a monster

There's a longer monologue coming on this issue, but I wanted to start off this rainy morning here in Austin TX with some thoughts on the anatomy of a monster.

We are very easily deceived. Even those among us who possess common sense, street smarts, and are genuinely intelligent are not immune to being captivated by a charismatic individual who ostensibly has pure intentions only to find out that they are truly malevolent.

We have an idea in our minds about what a monster of a human looks like. How they dress. Maybe how they talk and sound. Their mannerisms and peculiarities. We know that people like Ted Bundy were notorious for being so darn charming and normal, but we chalked that up to what? An aberration? Or do we recognize it as a real thing but something that doesn't impact individuals who find their way to seats of power? And of course, by power, I'm not just talking about politicians, in fact, politicians R husks of individuals or largely compelled by people far more powerful than they are who are unelected and members of the officialdom. In your everyday life, you know these people as the “experts.”

In my lifetime it's become clear that we love the experts. Even those of us who are well aware of the fact that every word that comes out of their mouths is either a complete and total lie or an obscene distortion of a truth with the aim of manipulating the population. Like I said I'm going to come back to this issue later but it's important that we talk about this because even though most people can't seem to accept this very real problem it is not something we can leave unaddressed.

I'll leave you with a little hint... As far as who's on the news lately there's a new rising star in a white coat. She's far more dogmatic and aggressive than her counterpart who is still very much in the spotlight but seems to be in a situation where he needs relief from the heat. And so, a new monster has been appointed. They're easy to see once you know the anatomy of a monster. Frankly they are also easy to see if you possess the common sense of a 9-year-old.

Make no mistake these monsters I'm more than just monsters. I have some words that come close to describing them but I'm going to abstain from using them right now. We will come back to covering the anatomy of a monster because moment by moment the issue is becoming impossible to ignore.
