A stout, huge headed bird with a lilac bosom, corroded cheeks, and spring-green crown. Singles and combines sit on noticeable roosts in open forest and gently wooded meadows. It has an astonishing presentation flight which incorporates side-to-side rolling, which gives rollers their name. For the most part calm, however at times calls an uproarious throaty "gwhaaak, gwhaaak". European Roller is chunkier, has a blue bosom and face, and has a more limited, square-tipped tail
