Simone Biles drops out of the Olympics for mental health reasons (7-27-21)

I'm trying and failing to think of some other professional athlete bowing out of finals competition to concentrate on mindfulness. Can you imagine a QB pulling this?

She's the John McCain of US gymnastics. McCain had no interest in winning in 2008, he should never have sought the Republican nomination. “I just felt like it would be a little bit better to take a back seat and work on my mindfulness,” Biles said.

Should the United States have placed her on the team if there was good reason to believe she would fold under pressure? Why didn't she bow out ahead of time and let someone else shine?
