Florida Cooter Turtle - Nap Time!

The wifey and I almost ran over this guy on a street near our house outside of DFW Texas. At first glance I thought it was just another Red Eared Slider, which are pretty common around here, but after examining closer, Cayla realized it was a different species. I found some images online and identified it to be a Florida Cooter, or Peninsula Cooter. Website said they are indigenous to Florida, so I'm not sure how common it is to find them here in Texas 🤷‍♂️
