Glendale police have released edited body-cam video of a man accused of threatening to shoot a gas station clerk before making the same threat toward officers on May 9. Officers responded near 51st Avenue and Bethany Home Road for reports of a man with a gun threatening the clerk around 3:30 a.m. that Sunday.

In an incident briefing released by Glendale police to the public, edited body-cam footage shows the moments before officers fired at 28-year-old Maxwell Jerome Davis. The video shows Davis hiding behind some cars in a nearby mobile home community. That's where it appears he says "I'll shoot" toward police before an officer shot Davis. Police say Davis had his hands pointed toward them as if he had a gun, before the officer shot him. He later died.

Police now say Davis was found with a sharp object, which appears to be a screwdriver, according to the photo provided.

Police also released surveillance video from the store, showing Davis approaching a store clerk at the counter, saying, "so you're gonna shoot me now?" The clerk then says, "Can you at least show me your gun? Please?" Davis then points to his waistband but it's unclear what, if anything, he was carrying inside the store.

No officers were hurt in the shooting. It was the 23rd officer-involved shooting for 2021 in Maricopa County. - ThisIsButter
