The beginning of the name 'Docor-bird' is to some degree disrupted. It has been said that the name was given in light of the fact that the erect dark peak and tails take after the formal hat and long tail coats specialists used to wear in the days of yore. Different ways of thinking accept that it alludes to the manner in which the birds spear the blossoms with their bills to extricate nectar.

As indicated by Frederic Cassidy the bird is an object of strange notion. The Arawaks spread the conviction that the bird had otherworldly powers. They considered it the 'God bird', trusting it was the resurrection of dead spirits. This is showed in a society melody which says: "Specialist Bud a cunny bud, hard bud fe dead". (It is a cunning bird which can't be effortlessly killed).
