It is the largest canida in Africa and the only one in the genus (Lycaon), which is distinguished from other canids by the number of its fingers and the number of its teeth. It is classified as an endangered animal that lives only in Africa, especially in the savannas and lands with few trees. It is called the African wild dog and the wolf hyena.
