In the Valley of Life - Matthew 17:14-27 sermon

When we study God’s Word, it’s important to remember the context and also ask the question, ‘what happened right before this?”

God revealed His glory by manifesting the radiance of Jesus and the persons of Moses and Elijah – representing the Law and the Prophets – both of which foretold Christ’s death. The cross must come before the kingdom.

It was back to reality. They had to go back down the mountain to the sin-filled, demon-infested valley. Isn't this what we deal with today? This world is not our home.

We know only Jesus saves and satisfies. Only He has the power to overcome the darkness, demons, and gods of this age.
Some good things can happen in the valley when our faith is tested; it causes us to rely on the Lord and His power. Some people do get healed. We’re reminded that things will often get worse before they get better – that suffering must precede success and our future glorification.
