The Rich Man & Lazarus : Luke 16

Jesus uses this parable to teach the Pharisees the following concepts:
-money does not equal one’s favorable status with God nor is it meritous for salvation (even if you can give more alms to the poor)
-being poor and unhealthy does not equal the disfavor of God
-people go to hell because of hard hearts and a rejection of God’s written Word & the Gospel.
- no amount of signs and wonders can soften a hard heart and provide the saving grace of salvation
- fallen humanity needs Scripture to soften their hard, unbelieving hearts because no amount evidence can do that. We need the sword of the spirit (I.e. the Bible) to do heart surgery on us.
