Join Tim and Shannon as they discuss video games. They will be delving into the pros and cons of gaming and the role it may play on our mental state as well as our physical health. We will be speaking with our Awaken Star, Aimee Daramus, Psy.D., L.C.P., along with our Goodwill Partner, Nadja Streiter, LMSW. Aimee Daramus is a licensed clinical psychologist at Urban Balance in Chicago. She treats mental illness, including bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, trauma, and schizophrenia. Along with more conventional treatments like CBT, DBT, and meditation, she includes some tech-enhanced therapies like using apps, video games, and fandoms as part of how I work. She also teaches at Harold Washington College. Aimee has got a book for the families of people with bipolar disorder coming out in September 2020. Nadja Streiter, LMSW is a psychotherapist and parent coach in Westport, Connecticut. She has specific expertise in treating adolescents and adults who struggle with Video Game Addiction, and other technology-based problematic behaviors, as well as cooccurring disorders. Ms. Streiter is a frequent speaker on this topic and also serves as Programs Director at Game Quitters where she co-created its parent program, RECLAIM. Along with her professional background, she has direct knowledge and experience as a mother of three children who has grown up during the current technology-driven era. Ms. Streiter received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Fordham University and has received specialized training in CBT, EMDR, and Process Addictions. She is a member of the Digital Wellness Collective, the National Association of Social Workers, and is an active participant in numerous activist groups oriented towards the development of ethical and humane technology. She also a Certified School Social Worker in the state of Connecticut.
