DASH/BODYCAMS: Fatal Shootout Ends Suspicious Vehicle Investigation In Placentia, California

PLACENTIA, CALIFORNIA - Placentia Police Department released footage of an incident where a suspicious vehicle investigation ends with a fatal shootout.

On May 29, 2021, at approx. 1:10 a.m., a Placentia police officer was investigating a suspicious occupied vehicle that was parked in a shopping center parking lot in the area of 800 N. Rose Dr. As the officer approached the vehicle, he made contact with the sole occupant. The occupant ignored the officer's commands to lower the window or open the door. The man eventually started the vehicle and inched backwards.

After additional officers arrived, they made several more attempts to communicate with the man, but he continued ignoring their commands. Officers fired (3) 40mm rubber bullets at the driver-side window. After the third round, the man opened fire on the officers, resulting in an officer involved shooting. No officers were injured during the incident and the suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. - LEO Perspective
