President Biden released a statement on Wednesday offering condolences to the people of Haiti, following the assassination of their president.

However, in 1994 he didn’t appear to be winning many friends with his comments on the Caribbean country.

Biden was responding to a reporter’s question on why the US was concerned with becoming involved in the Bosnian conflict and not with Haiti – the now-president talking about the immediate concerns of the Balkan war rather than the long-term solution he believed was required for Haiti.
